This Thursday will begin a parish Lenten mission.  A parish mission is typically a several days event when a preacher from outside of the parish will come to present a spiritual conference.  These were more popular in times past when they would routinely last a week or even more.  The idea behind a parish mission is to bring someone into the
parish with a new and fresh perspective.  The preacher is also able to devote a greater amount of time to the topic at hand.  We are accustomed to hearing our own parish priests mostly at Mass which is only for a few minutes, and so a mission gives us a new perspective and more time devoted to the topic.  This year we have Fr. Ewald-Johannes Kamphuis coming to lead a parish mission.  Fr. Johannes lives in Boise and is part of a religious community known as Verbum Spei, in English this translates into Word of Hope.  The Verbum Spei community was invited into our diocese by Bishop Peter several years ago and part of what they provide is spiritual help for parishes such as a parish mission.
I have asked that Fr. Johannes speak to us about the Eucharist.  Our nation is in a three-year project to revive Americans’ understanding, faith and reverence for the Eucharist so I thought it appropriate for him to focus on this in our mission.  His focus will be the Eucharist, but one of the goals of a mission is to lead us to deeper conversion.  I encourage and invite everyone to come to the mission and to be inspired in your love for the Eucharist and to allow the Lord to lead you to further conversion as one of His faithful children. The mission will begin this Thursday, at 7:00PM at Christ the King church, don’t miss it.

Este jueves habrá una misión parroquial presentada en inglés.  Una misión parroquial es una serie de pláticas presentadas por un predicador que viene de afuera.  En este país estas eran más comunes en tiempos pasados cuando duraban hasta una semana sino más días.  La idea de una misión parroquial es de traer a una persona con una perspectiva nueva y fresca.  El predicador tiene la oportunidad de dedicar amplio tiempo a sus platicas.  Estamos acostumbrados a escuchar nuestros sacerdotes normalmente en la Santa Misa por solo unos minutos, así que una misión nos da una nueva perspectiva con más tiempo.  Este año invitamos al Padre Ewald-Johannes Kamphuis que presentará una misión.  El Padre Johannes vive en Boise y es parte de la comunidad religiosa, Verbum Spei, que en español se puede traducir Palabra de Esperanza.
La comunidad de Verbum Spei fue invitada a nuestra diócesis por el Obispo Peter hace unos años atrás y parte de lo que ellos ofrecen es alimento espiritual para las parroquias como en una misión parroquial. Le pedí al padre Johannes presentar sobre la Eucaristía.  Nuestro país se encuentra dentro de un proyecto de tres años dedicado a revivir nuestra comprensión, fe y reverencia por la Eucaristía así que es un tema adecuado para la misión.  Se enfocará en la Eucaristía, pero una de las metas de una misión parroquial es la conversión.  Así que los invito a todos que puedan ir a la misión y ser inspirados en su amor por la Eucaristía y dejar que el Señor los llame como sus hijos fieles, a la conversión.  La misión comenzará a las 7:00 de la tarde este jueves en la iglesia Cristo Rey.
