By now kids are back to school including our own students of Holy Rosary Parochial School.
I think it is worthwhile to regularly focus on our school and to be reminded that the school is a major outreach of and to the parish. This parish made a choice over one hundred years ago to have a school and our school remains. I wish that we had the resources in terms of space, facilities, finances and personnel so that every child from our parish could attend our school if that were desired by the parents. Unfortunately, we are constrained by lack of all of those things. However, the outreach of our school is not limited by any of these things if we are willing to take the time to know what is being taught in it and implementing these things in our religious education programs, at home and our personal spiritual lives. Our school aims to bring our students to Jesus. Our Lord wanted the children to be near Him and my hope is that parents of students in any school will want this for their children as well. It is the primary role of the parents to teach their children in all things and so all parents can bring their children to Jesus. This is something the Church has always held and honored. Parents do this by taking their children to Sunday Mass, teaching them about our religion at home and modeling how to live it for them.  Another point of focus is to teach virtue. Virtue in itself is a Catholic ideal and it means being made strong in what we need to be faithful followers of Jesus and His Church. Every week one of the priests will speak to the students about virtue and these lessons can be found on our school’s web site for anyone to hear. We focus on a different virtue every week and the teachers will also teach them in the classroom. It is absolutely necessary to have virtue in order to be in proper relationship with Our Lord Jesus and His Church and so we give it much time and attention. If they are to be followers of Jesus, our children must learn how to make it in the world but not be of it. This means, in part, knowing how to give and take from the world,
how to be successful and smart in relating to the world. It also means that life’s goal is not to blend in with the world, to compete with the fun and the ideals of the world or to reject the world entirely. It means bringing Jesus and His loving mercy into this world. This is what everyone in our parish can learn from our school, be a part of it.

Para este tiempo ya todos los niños han vuelto a la escuela incluyendo los alumnos de nuestra Escuela de Santo Rosario. Para mí es importante enfocarnos con regularidad en nuestra escuela y recordarnos que es un brazo principal de servicio y para la parroquia.  La parroquia tomó la decisión hace más de 100 años atrás de tener escuela y seguimos con ella. Me gustaría que tuviéramos los recursos en cuestión de espacio, facilidades, finanzas y equipo para que cada niño de la parroquia pudiera asistir si quisieran sus papas. Tristemente, estamos limitados por la escasez de todas estas cosas. Pero el servicio de la escuela hacia la parroquia no tiene por qué ser limitado por ninguna de estas cosas si tomamos el tiempo de informarnos de lo que se está enseñando en ella. Esto se puede poner en práctica en nuestros hogares, programas de educación religiosa y en nuestras vidas espirituales. La meta principal de la escuela es arrimar a los estudiantes al Señor Jesús. Nuestro Señor quiso que se le arrimaran los niños y mi gusto es que los papás de niños en cualquier escuela desean lo mismo para sus hijos. Es el papel principal de los papás educar a sus hijos en todo, así que los papás son los primeros que traen a sus hijos a Jesús. Esto es algo que la Iglesia siempre ha guardado y
honrado. Los papás hacen esto llevando a sus hijos a la Misa de domingo, enseñándoles la religión en sus hogares y modelando para ellos como vivirla. Otro punto en que nos enfocamos es enseñar la virtud. La virtud es un ideal Católico que significa dejarse hacer fuerte con todo lo necesario para ser seguidor fiel del Señor Jesús y su Iglesia. Cada semana los sacerdotes se turnarán en enseñar a los alumnos las virtudes y estos enseñamientos se pueden encontrar en la
página web de la escuela y son para todo mundo. Nos enfocamos en una nueva virtud cada semana y los maestros también las enseñan en los salones.  Tener virtud es algo absolutamente necesario para tener una relación auténtica con el Señor Jesús y con su Iglesia y por eso le damos mucho tiempo. Si son seguidores del Señor Jesús los niños deben aprender cómo hacerla en el mundo sin ser del mundo. Esto, en parte, significa saber que tomar y que dar al mundo y cómo ser exitoso e inteligente en los modos del mundo. Pero también significa no dejar mezclar las metas de nuestra vida con las del mundo, de competir con el entretenimiento que ofrece el mundo o de rechazar por completo al mundo.  Estas son las cosas que todos en nuestra parroquia pueden aprender de nuestra escuela, hazte parte de ella.
