Two weeks ago Bishop Peter Christensen came to Mud Lake to consecrate and dedicate the mission’s new church and altar. It was a glorious day for the people of St. Ann’s Mission, for our parochial vicars and for me. There had been a lot of time and a lot of effort put into the arrival of that day. The people of St. Ann’s waited 3 ½ years for their new church after the old one was destroyed in a fire. The completion and furnishing of the new church were a concerted effort of the people there and so many throughout the area and even the diocese. People from other parts of the state sent contributions as well as organizations such as the Idaho Council of Catholic Women. Our own “mother” parish in Idaho Falls contributed for the materials of the new altar. Local craftsmen Kevin and Patty Krank built the new altar. The main altar turned out beautifully and I am happy to say that it is topped with Idaho travertine, a type of marble mined near Swan Valley, Idaho. Pat and Donann Hedderman did heroic work in restoring the original Baptismal font, making the new cross for the main
 crucifix and also the twelve consecration crosses. The tabernacle and other metal items were restored out of a company in Texas and they are as good as new. The day of the consecration, Saturday, February 15, was cold, windy and snowy in Idaho Falls and in Mud Lake there were blue skies and sunshine. The church will hold about 100 people and every seat was filled with a few standing where they could. A small ad hoc choir went from Idaho Falls and sang beautifully the 14 pieces of music required for this ceremony. Our master of ceremonies Chris Ischay and two altar servers from Idaho Falls lent a hand to the two servers of St. Ann’s. It is a complex ceremony and we could have used at least one more altar server. The bishop consecrated and dedicated this new church which is now a gem in the highland desert. I am grateful to God that we have a church in Mud Lake again. I am grateful to everyone who helped to bring it to its completion. I also want to thank those in Idaho Falls who contributed towards the materials for the altar. The goal was to raise $6,000 and we raised over $10,000. To witness the dedication and consecration of a new church and altar is rare even for a bishop. Our own Bishop Peter said this is only the third time he has done this. This adds to the singular privilege and honor for the people of St. Ann’s as they come together for Sunday Mass in their new church. Saint Ann, pray for us.

Hace dos semanas el Sr. Obispo Peter Christensen vino a Mud Lake a consagrar y dedicar la iglesia y altar de esa misión. Fue un día glorioso para la gente de la Misión de Sta. Ana, para nuestros vicarios y para mí. Se puso mucho esfuerzo y tiempo en preparación para ese dichoso día. La gente de Sta. Ana esperó 3 ½ años por su nueva iglesia después de que la primera fue destruida en un incendio. La construcción y el remate del templo nuevo fue resultado del esfuerzo de muchos, tanto como gente aquí cerca y de toda la diócesis. Personas de otros lados del estado mandaron sus donaciones igual a organizaciones como el Consejo de Mujeres Católicas de Idaho. Nuestra propia “madre” iglesia de Idaho Falls otorgó el material para el nuevo altar. Artesanos de aquí colaboraron con sus talentos. Los Señores Kevin y Patty Krank construyeron el nuevo altar y actualmente están preparando el altar de atrás para el sagrario. El altar principal quedó hermoso y está rematado con una losa de especie de maromo llamado Idaho travertine, que viene de Swan Valley, Idaho. Los Señores Pat y Donann Hedderman elaboraron un trabajo casi milagroso de restaurar la pila de bautismo originaria que quedó dañada en el incendio. También construyeron la cruz del crucifijo principal y las doce cruces de consagración. El tabernáculo original y otros artículos de metal que fueron dañados en el incendio fueron restaurados a su condición nueva por una compañía de Texas. El día de la consagración, sábado, 15 de febrero fue un día nublado con nieve y viento en Idaho Falls pero en Mud Lake el cielo brillaba azul y había mucho sol. El templo tiene cupo para unas 100 personas y cada lugar se ocupó con algunos que estuvieron de pie en donde podían. Un coro improvisado cantó hermosamente los 14 cantos requeridos en este rito. El maestro de ceremonias fue Chris Ischay que asistió de Idaho Falls con dos monaguillos para asistir a los dos monaguillos de Sta. Ana. Esta ceremonia es muy compleja y en realidad nos faltó otro monaguillo más. El obispo consagró y dedicó este templo nuevo que se ha convertido en una joya del desierto. Estoy agradecido a Dios que ya tenemos templo otra vez más en Mud Lake. Estoy agradecido a todos los que nos ayudaron a terminarlo. Quiero agradecer a los de Idaho Falls que contribuyeron para el material del altar. La meta era recaudar $6,000 y logramos más de $10,000. Estar presente y ver la consagración de un templo nuevo no es algo común ni para un obispo.
 Nuestro obispo dijo que esta fue solamente la tercera vez que lo había hecho. Esto aumenta este privilegio y honor para la gente de Sta. Ana ahora que se pueden reunir ahí para asistir a la Misa dominical. Sta. Ana, ruega por nosotros.
